Kornelius Reutter, lighting concepteur / engineer / designer
Kornelius is a lighting concepteur who originally studied mechatronics in Stuttgart, Germany, and later completed Master's studies in Design Engineering in Lucerne, Switzerland, and Industrial Design in Milan, Italy.
After developing medical devices, micromotors, and furniture, he entered the domain of lighting. Today, he works in design and innovation for future concepts of human spaces, including architectural components, lighting, and luminaires.
He conducts research in interior materials, optical technologies as well as in the application field of lighting, investigating the relationship between daylight, interior lighting and people.
He is fascinated by the effects of light on people and the environment. His interests lie in exploring these effects from physiological, psychological, and architectural perspectives. At the same time, he investigates how light, materiality, acoustics, and other sensory factors work together to create meaningful spatial experiences.
His passion lies in holistically synergizing values for innovative product solutions. Whether through lighting, furniture, acoustics, or architectural elements, he seeks to enhance how people experience and interact with space.
His work includes several design luminaires that are successfully marketed internationally. He holds more than 15 patents in the field of illumination and has received design awards such as the Red Dot Award, the German Design Award, and the Good Design Award.
A Swiss government-funded research project resulted in the development of a light-shaping layer that is now commercially available. The innovation received the “Best of” Design Plus Award at the Light + Building 2022 fair in Frankfurt, Germany.
