Lorrie Rand

Director of Sustainability, Senior Advisor
Halifax, Canada

Lorrie is a designer and building science specialist based in Nova Scotia, Canada. She is co-founder of Habit Studio — a small architecture firm working at the intersection of high-performance design, deep retrofit, and human-centred living. She is also co-founder of The ReCover Initiative, a federally funded non-profit focused on deep retrofit acceleration.

With twenty-five years of practice, Lorrie brings a technically rigorous approach to some of architecture's most critical questions: how buildings perform, how they endure, and how they feel to live in. She holds Certified Passive House Designer and Tradesperson credentials and leads both new construction Passive House projects and deep retrofit work across Atlantic Canada, with a focus on enclosure-first strategies, energy performance, and moisture-safe detailing. She is an instructor of masters level courses at Passive House Canada, serves on the board of directors for Retrofit Canada, and is a member of the National Research Council of Canada's National Model Codes Committee for Climate Mitigation.

Woven through Lorrie's work is a long-held commitment to design that engages the senses, connects people to nature, and supports comfort, health, and wellbeing.
