Teresa Ribeiro is an architect with over two decades of professional experience in residential architecture, urban design, and building rehabilitation. Over the years, her work has progressively evolved toward the field of Neuroarchitecture, where she explores how insights from neuroscience can inform the design of healthier, more human-centered built environments. She is the founder of the Portuguese Neuroarchitecture Academy, an initiative dedicated to promoting the integration of neuroscientific knowledge into architectural education, research, and professional practice in Portugal. Teresa holds a degree in Architecture from Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa, having completed her final year through the Erasmus program at Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza. She later obtained a Master’s degree in Monument Rehabilitation from UPC – Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Barcelona). Her academic background also includes postgraduate studies in Project Management at ISEG (Lisbon) and Real Estate Investment Analysis at Iscte (Lisbon). She further expanded her professional training through the Real Estate Management, Leadership and Design (REM 2022) executive program at Harvard Business School.Her specialization in neuroscience applied to the built environment includes training in Applied Neuroscience to Environments and Creation (Neuroau), accredited by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and Culture. She also completed the Sustainable Real Estate: Analysis and Investment program at MIT School of Architecture and Planning. Teresa participated in several international programs such as Moving Boundaries – Winter Course (Italy, 2023), Nordic X Scandinavia (2024), and Amares (2025). In addition, she is a certified NLP Practitioner, a BIM Manager by buildingSMART, and completed the Human Behavior Research certification at iMotions Academy (Copenhagen Business School), focusing on biometric data collection, signal processing, and behavioral analysis. Currently, Teresa leads the Project Management and Quality Control Department at iMota, Lda, where she contributes to the development of projects focused on urban quality and community-centered architecture. Earlier in her career, she worked at the architectural studio of Carlos Ferrater in Barcelona. She has also collaborated with Architects Without Borders and local NGOs on social impact initiatives, and has been involved in housing development projects in Mozambique, particularly in Maputo. Teresa is actively involved in several international professional networks, including ANFA UK, ANFA Center for Education (ACE), Moving Boundaries Alumni, the Global Wellness Institute, GRI Institute, Women Leading Real Estate, WIRE, and APPII. She also serves as a WELL Mind Advisor for the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), contributing to global discussions on health, well-being, and the future of the built environment.
