Kurt is founder and principal of Kurt Christian Hunker, Architect, consultant to architectural firms in the programming, conceptualization and design of educational, civic, recreational and performance facilities. His designs have received awards from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and other organizations at the local, state, regional and national levels. Projects have been published in various professional and educational journals including Architecture, Texas Architect and American School & University.
Hunker is also Emeritus Professor of Architecture at the NewSchool of Architecture + Design in San Diego, where he taught for over 30 years and served as Director of Graduate Programs, Department Chair, Dean and Provost. He is the author of articles on theory, criticism and design and has presented his work in conferences from San Diego to Moscow. Recognized for his contributions to architectural education, in 2013 Kurt Hunker was elected a Fellow of the AIA. He is a past president of the Academy of Neuroscience for Architecture and a long-time board member.
Kurt has been involved with Moving Boundaries since the very first program in Iberia in 2022. In 2024 he was the Architecture Co-Chair for Nordic X in Stockholm and Helsinki.
