Aabid Rahem

Aabid Raheem is a Principal Architect and Urban Spatial Analyst at [ar&de], an architecture practice in Kerala, India co founded with Sehla Ahamed. The practice strives to harness the possibilities that designed spaces provide to enhance the quality and performance of organisations and the lives of individuals it designs for. Aabid has worked with renowned practices in India and abroad such as those of B.V.Doshi, Suhasini Aiyer, Andre Hababou and Spacelab in London. He is a post graduate of The Bartlett at University College London and a graduate from MESSOA, Kerala.

Aabid has a keen interest in academia and was the founding Head of Faculty at Avani Institute of Design, Kerala. He blogs, has published research papers and has presented his work at international and national platforms. His published research is broadly based on understanding spatial cultures at the building and urban scale using the Space Syntax framework. He is also a founding trustee of Coearth, an NGO focussed on socially and environmentally responsible architecture.

[ar&de] is a recipient of multiple national and regional awards for Architecture, Interior Design, Product Design and Writing, such as the IIA and IIID Awards For Excellence, the Young Designer of the year award by the Indian Architect & Builder magazine and have featured on the Merit List aswell, among other achievements. [ar&de]’s ongoing and completed projects include residences, apartments, offices, hospitals, rehabilitation centres for differently abled, resorts, educational institutions, libraries, factories, retail interior, etc.
