Asami Igarashi

Asami  Igarashi is an architect and Master of Architecture candidate at the  Yale School of Architecture (Class of 2027), where she holds a JASSO  scholarship.

With nearly a decade of professional experience,  most notably at Kengo Kuma and Associates (KKAA) in Tokyo, she has  worked across a broad range of project types from luxury hospitality and  residential to public educational facilities in Japan, Hawaii, and  China, to product design in collaboration with local craftsmen. Her  interest in material aesthetics, construction detail, and craft labor  informs her curiosity about how the act of building shapes the  experience of the built environment.

She has conducted  Japanese-English translation for architectural offices throughout her  career, and has worked on interpretation projects, interviewing  prominent figures in Japanese architecture including Hasegawa Itsuko,  Sejima Kazuyo, and Nakamura Yoshiaki. She is currently pursuing  translation studies at Yale.

Originally born and raised in  Switzerland, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the  University of California, Berkeley, graduating with honors and receiving  the Raymond L. Watson Best Project Prize. She is PMP-certified and a  LEED Green Associate.
