Carolina's career as an architect started in 2005. It reflects her versatility and dedication to architecture and design. With experience in both international and local contexts, she has made significant contributions to a range of high-profile projects. Her time at Barber & Osgerby and Universal Design Studio in London allowed her to refine her expertise in interior design and exhibition spaces. At Ateliers Jean Nouvel, in Paris and New York, she worked on iconic structures such as the MoMA Tower and the Philharmonie de Paris. Awarded the Portuguese Inov-Art Grant, Carolina moved to Los Angeles, where she deepened her exploration of innovative housing solutions, further reinforcing her forward-thinking sustainable approach.

Her focus on urban activation and regeneration—evident in her leadership of the Ruacanto Festival and the Ruactiva Project—underscores her commitment to enhancing community spaces. Currently doing her Post Graduation at Escola Sert, in Barcelona, where she is delving into the field of Neuroarchitecture, positioning herself at the intersection of science and design to create more holistic, human-centered spaces.

Carolina also runs her architecture office, Atelier Backlar, based in Lisbon and the Azores, where she develops projects ranging from urban planning and architecture to product design.
