Gergely Hory

Gergely Hory is an architect and assistant professor at the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME), where he completed his PhD in architecture. Prior that he continued master studies in architecture at BME and at TU Delft. His research and teaching focus on everyday urban life, informality, and on how public spaces are shaped by the routines, frictions and appropriations of their users. At the department he teaches several design and research courses; among them he leads the design studio Department Design 1: Public Life Studies for international students, which approaches public space through walks, situated observation, video assignments and visual diaries before moving towards design proposals. In his earlier practice experience as a founding member of Partizan Architecture he contributed to projects such as the installation “Play in Historic Sacral Spaces,” which received nomintion at BETA architecture biennal based in Timisoara. In addition to architecture and research Gergely has an artistic practice as well: he has participated in artist-in-residence programmes in Vienna (MQ21) and Bucharest (Amadeus). He was nominated for the Henkel Art Award and was shorlisted for the Schindler scholarship (MAK Vienna).
