Sandhya Sood
Architect
Berkeley, USA
Throughout my career, my work as an architect, builder and architectural historian has been influenced by regional culture, environment and the local climate. Over two decades ago, after pursuing an advanced degree at the College of Environmental Design (CED), at UC Berkeley, and working with acclaimed architecture firms, I established my professional practice “accent architecture+design”, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
My multicultural background and diverse work experience includes passive solar construction in the Himalayas, European modernism in Paris, vernacular architecture with Raj Rewal in North India, and people-based architecture rooted in the California landscape. What I learnt has contributed to my understanding of the significance of human-centered design.
I have been fortunate to have my work recognized by awards, exhibitions and with a proclamation by Berkeley’s mayor. Research has been published by American Solar Energy Society, AIA California, Society of Architectural Historians, and Docomomo International.
