Charles-Antoine Barbeau

Charles-Antoine Barbeau-Meunier is a Quebec resident physician in child and adolescent psychiatry and a scholar on empathy and social health. From an eclectic blend of disciplinary training including media studies, sociology and neuroscience, he has devoted the last decade exploring empathy and human connectedness at the intersection of existential challenges such as the climate crisis, the expanding digital landscape, the epidemic of loneliness, and the erosion of care in social institutions.

More recently, he has initiated work integrating Eastern and Western philosophy, building on critical insights from the Kyoto School in re-thinking social ethics and our connectedness with one another. For his social leadership, Charles-Antoine received recognition as a laureate of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame and of the Canadian Medical Association.
